Soak is a gentle rinse-free cleanser for all your hand washables - lingerie, sweaters, quilts, baby clothes, and even pets.
I got a free trial size of citrus-scented Soak with some purchase, I have no idea when or where. It's been tucked away in my yarn stash long enough for me to forget the details.
I've had two wool sweaters waiting for washing for a very long time. Handwashing wool sweaters is not my favorite pastime - they seem to gain 20 lbs. in weight when wet and usually take at least four rinsings to get truly clean.
I've been skeptical of this "rinse-free" stuff, but I so want to believe. So this morning I gave it a try.
The instructions say 1 trial package is good for two items. I think maybe I should have used the whole package, but I didn't. The instructions also said "dissolve in one gallon of water and submerge garment." My sweater soaked up almost one gallon of water, so I had to add more in order to submerge. That's why I thought maybe I should have added all the cleanser.
However, all I did was press on my sweater until I had submerged it. No gentle agitation, nothing more. I was amazed and am embarrassed to say, the water became extremely dirty. I couldn't see the bottom of the sink.
We'll have to wait for it to dry to see how the "no-rinse" part works out. However, already, even when wet, the sweater is noticeably brighter. A lot brighter. Wow.
Obviously I'm not waiting for the sweater to dry before I write an enthusiastic recommendation for Soak. It is still really really wet but is lustrous and soft, more so than I remember it being in a long long time.
This sweater is an old friend, knit about 15 years ago from the wonderfully silky and luminous Lambs Pride wool/mohair blend yarn from Brown Sheep. I swear, the sweater is smiling at me and would give me a hug except that it needs to lie very still while drying.
